Sometimes Stratton didn’t need flowers, enamel or decoration to make something beautiful — the metalwork did all the work.

This classic gold-tone Stratton has a wonderfully crisp geometric guilloché pattern radiating across the lid, with concentric engine turning on the reverse. It catches the light beautifully and gives what is actually quite a restrained compact a surprising amount of sparkle.

Inside is a large clear mirror still carrying its original Stratton instruction label, together with Stratton’s patented self-opening powder lid. The interior is marked Stratton Patent.

It measures approximately 7.5 cm diameter.

The gold tone remains bright with only minor marks, the mirror is clear and both mechanisms work correctly.

For me, the surviving instruction label makes this one — a small detail, but exactly the sort of thing that tends to disappear once a compact starts being used.
