This vintage Kigu powder compact has an all-over floral design worked directly into the gold-tone lid, with flowers and foliage forming a dense decorative pattern across the surface.
Made by Kigu of London, it is a classic example of the company’s mid-century metal compacts, where intricate surface decoration could be produced without the addition of enamel or separate applied ornament.
The case opens to reveal its original mirror and powder compartment.
The floral detailing remains well defined, although the gold-tone surface has small marks and scratches from use. The interior also shows evidence of having been used.
Kigu produced an enormous variety of decorative compacts during the post-war period, and this one is particularly representative of the firm’s embossed and patterned gold-tone designs: relatively simple in construction, but densely decorated and unmistakably mid-century.
