A wonderful and exceptionally unusual vintage powder compact produced to commemorate the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953.
The large circular gilt brass case is beautifully decorated with the Coronation Regalia, including the crowns, sceptres, orb, sword and anointing vessels used during the historic ceremony. Each piece is picked out in wonderful detail against the warm gold tone background, with 1953 displayed beneath the central sword.
At approximately 9cm in diameter, this is an impressive and substantial compact. The reverse has an intricate engine turned design, while inside is the original powder compartment and sifter.
The exterior decoration remains remarkably attractive for its age, with light age related wear. There is significant age related deterioration to the mirror silvering, as clearly shown in the photographs, and this has been taken into account when assessing the condition.
