An unusual King Edward VIII Coronation powder compact, produced in connection with the coronation planned for 1937 before Edward VIII’s abdication meant the ceremony never took place.
The compact is decorated as a royal commemorative piece while remaining a functional vanity accessory, and retains its mirror, powder fittings and small original puff. Traces of Lylax powder also survive inside.
This example has previously been attributed to Rachel Original. I have retained that attribution cautiously rather than presenting the maker as confirmed where definitive identifying evidence is not available.
There are minor marks and signs of age to the case and interior, appropriate to a piece approaching ninety years old.
