An unusual vintage Coty Paris powder compact featuring a metallic foiled devotional image of St Bartholomew — a subject very rarely encountered on a cosmetic compact.
The gold-tone case measures approximately 5.5 cm diameter, with an engine-turned reverse marked Coty Paris.
Across the colourful foiled lid is the inscription “St Bartholomew Guard Prosper and Bring Happiness.”
Inside, the original mirror remains in place, although it now has considerable spotting, and the powder well still contains traces of its original contents.
The exact date is uncertain, although its construction and styling place it broadly within the Art Deco to mid-century period.
The foiled image remains remarkably colourful with its metallic detail still clearly visible. The interior shows evidence of previous use, while both hinge and clasp remain secure.
A fascinating crossover between early cosmetics, devotional imagery and personal talisman — and certainly one of the more unusual Coty compacts.
