A wonderful 1930s Dubarry Powdrette powder compact, dating to around c.1933 and made in England for the celebrated Dubarry Perfumery Co. of 81 Brompton Road, London.
Measuring approximately 6 cm, the compact has an elegant octagonal form with finely engine-turned silver-tone surfaces and the distinctive Dubarry crest to the front.
Inside is a mirror and, wonderfully, the original removable Dubarry powder refill container, embossed with the Dubarry name, 81 Brompton Road address, original price of 1/6, and instructions for obtaining replacement refills. The compact itself is also clearly marked “Dubarry’s Powdrette” around the powder well.
A particularly lovely survivor from the golden age of British cosmetics, with the original branded refill making it an especially appealing piece for a collector of early vanity accessories and cosmetic history.
The compact is in good vintage condition with age-related surface wear and patination as shown in the photographs. Please study all images as they form part of the description.
