The bold red and black geometric front gives this Art Deco vanity case a wonderfully graphic look, with its glossy black reverse and silver-tone edging keeping the design clean and striking. This is a proper little nécessaire rather than a simple powder compact, dating from the 1920s/1930s and made to carry several cosmetics together.
Inside is a fitted mirror, a generous powder compartment, and a retractable lipstick holder with its sliding mechanism. The interior has survived in very appealing condition and makes this a lovely piece to open and explore. It measures approximately 9–9.5 cm long by 8.5 cm wide, with no maker's mark found.
There are visible areas of surface and enamel-style finish loss to the red and black front, along with age-related general wear. The plain black reverse has lighter surface wear. Please refer to the photographs, which form part of the condition description.
