A beautifully made vintage Elgin American powder compact in a warm gold-tone finish, distinguished by its softly rounded clipped-corner shape and wonderfully detailed floral engraving. The lid is richly decorated with an all-over pattern of leaves and blossoms, centred with a shaped cartouche inscribed “Mother” in graceful flowing script — a particularly charming and thoughtful design.
The reverse has a simple gently brushed finish, creating a lovely contrast with the ornate lid. Inside is a generous shaped mirror and a covered powder well with an attractive textured, wavy-patterned cover bearing the “Elgin American Made in U.S.A.” maker’s plaque. It fastens neatly with a front tab clasp and measures approximately 8.5cm x 7.5cm. Supplied with a black felt pouch.
