A striking vintage 7cm square powder compact decorated with a beautifully worked petit point floral panel on a dramatic black ground.
The embroidered design features a colourful bouquet of roses and blue flowers in shades of red, pink, orange, blue and green, surrounded by an ornate scrolling border worked in warm gold and brown tones. The black background really makes the colours stand out and gives this compact a particularly rich, elegant appearance.
The embroidery is set within a simple gold-tone frame, while the reverse has a smart linear textured finish. Inside is a large bevelled mirror together with the original removable mesh sifter.
The compact is in good vintage condition overall, with some age-related wear and tarnishing to the gold-tone metalwork, particularly around the edges and clasp, as shown in the photographs. The petit point panel remains bright and attractive, and the mirror has some light age-related spotting but remains very usable.
A lovely example of a vintage embroidered powder compact, and an especially attractive piece for anyone collecting petit point, needlework or unusual vanity accessories.
