A beautifully cheerful mid-century powder compact, its glossy deep burgundy-red cover enlivened by a delicate floral spray in pink, pale grey and blue, with tiny rosebud details and gold-tone leaves. The richly coloured background gives the flowers a particularly pretty contrast, while the warm gold-tone edging lends the piece a lovely, polished finish.
Circular and pleasingly lightweight, this unknown-maker compact measures approximately 7cm in diameter. Its reverse is especially attractive, finished with a striking radiating sunburst design. Inside, there is a round mirror and a powder well retaining its fitted white mesh sifter, with a neat front catch completing the design. The construction and decorative styling suggest an approximate 1950s date.
