Vintage Japanese Scottie Dog Powder Compact – Pearlescent Celluloid – Near Mint – 1940s/50s

A delightful vintage Japanese powder compact featuring a wonderfully characterful applied Scottie dog decoration.

Dating from approximately the 1940s–1950s, the 7.5cm circular case has a beautiful peach-pink pearlescent celluloid finish with a wonderful mother-of-pearl effect. The lid is decorated with an applied black Scottie dog with tiny yellow detailing to the collar and eye.

Inside is a beautifully clear mirror and powder compartment, complete with its original sifter and powder puff. Both retain their small Made in Japan labels – a lovely detail and particularly nice to find still present.

This compact is in exceptional near-mint vintage condition and appears to have seen very little use. The pearlescent case remains beautifully glossy, the applied Scottie is crisp and well preserved, and the interior, mirror, sifter and puff are remarkably clean. Any signs of age are extremely minor and can be seen in the photographs.

A gorgeous surviving example of Japanese mid-century vanity ware, made especially appealing by its wonderful condition, complete interior and charming Scottie dog design.
