A charming little vintage Rachel powder compact, measuring approximately 5.5cm across, with a creamy mother of pearl mottled celluloid panel set into the lid.
At the centre is a tiny enamelled souvenir badge bearing the name Kirkwall, decorated with a sailing ship above a green landscape. The warm ivory-toned celluloid has an attractive marbled appearance and is framed by gold-tone metal.
The reverse is finished with a detailed engine-turned circular design. Inside is the original powder compartment together with its Rachel branded powder puff.
This compact is in used vintage condition, with age-related wear and tarnishing to the metalwork. The mirror is heavily foxed, as shown, and there are traces of old powder and age-related wear to the interior.
A lovely and slightly unusual Scottish souvenir compact, with plenty of character and a particularly sweet miniature Kirkwall crest.
