A wonderful vintage Mascot powder compact in the form of a miniature suitcase or handbag.
The structured gold-tone case features finely engine-turned decoration with ornate floral detailing to the corners, together with a raised top handle and ribbed clasp. The unusual three-dimensional design gives the compact considerably more character than a conventional flat powder compact.
Opening the case reveals the fitted mirror, inner lid and powder compartment with its sifter frame.
Condition is very good vintage overall. The engine-turned decoration remains crisp and the gold-tone case presents attractively, with light signs of age and previous handling. There is some loss to the gilt finish on the handle together with small age-related marks, all shown in the photographs. The interior remains clean and well presented, and the hinge and clasp operate correctly.
A particularly appealing Mascot novelty compact, combining practical vanity design with the wonderfully playful miniature-luggage styling associated with some of the maker’s most collectible pieces.
