A charming vintage Melissa powder compact with an unusual engraved design of two birds perched amongst flowering branches.
The front has a warm satin gold-tone finish, decorated with delicate flowers and foliage alongside a pair of birds, all framed by a pretty beaded border. Its softly shaped, scalloped outline gives the compact an especially elegant appearance. The reverse is finished with a finely textured geometric pattern.
Inside is a full mirror above the powder compartment, which retains its original mesh sifter and powder puff.
Measuring approximately 7.5cm across, it is a lovely example of a decorative mid-century powder compact.
The compact is in good vintage condition overall, with some surface scratches, small marks and age-related wear to the gold-tone finish, particularly around the edges and interior, as shown. The mirror remains clear and usable. The original sifter shows traces of powder from previous use.
