A vintage petit point powder compact, dating from approximately the 1950s–60s, with a finely embroidered floral panel set into its square case.
Measuring approximately 7 x 7 cm, the needlework depicts soft pink rose-like flowers and sage green foliage worked against a black ground. The reverse is covered in matching black fabric.
Inside is a gold-tone interior with engine-turned decoration, together with the original mirror and powder well.
The embroidery remains beautifully clean and colourful, with the fine petit point stitching and floral detail particularly well preserved. The fabric reverse is also clean, while the gilt interior has only light marks from previous use. The hinge and clasp operate correctly.
The combination of textile work and metal construction gives this compact a very different character from the more usual enamelled and engine-turned pieces of the period.
