A generously sized vintage powder compact combining deep red enamel with a finely worked petit point floral panel.
Measuring approximately 10 x 7 cm, the rectangular case has a cream-ground needlework panel filled with small pastel flowers, surrounded by a broad red enamel border. The reverse is also enamelled red, with natural tonal variation visible across the surface.
Inside are the original mirror and fitted powder interior, together with an unusually attractive embroidered petit point powder puff.
The compact is unmarked and appears to be of continental manufacture, dating broadly to the mid-20th century.
It remains in very good condition, with only light evidence of careful use. The enamel, needlework and interior fittings have all survived particularly well.
The original embroidered puff is an important part of this example: it repeats the textile character of the lid and makes the compact considerably more complete than one surviving with a later replacement puff.
