Vintage Stratton Evening Bag Set: Art Deco Floral Vanity Case, England

There was a time when an evening bag could be a beautiful object in its own right — and this wonderful Stratton set belongs entirely to that world.

Made in England, the structured gold-tone case is decorated with soft cream and grey florals, finished with a beautifully geometric handle and clasp. Open it and the blush satin interior reveals an entire little vanity arrangement, with its original powder compact, cigarette case and amber-tone comb still fitted neatly into their places.

The compact retains its mirror, mesh sifter and Stratton puff, while the comb remains complete with all its teeth.

It has clearly been carried and enjoyed. There are light scratches and areas of rubbing and thinning to the floral finish, particularly around the reverse and edges, together with gentle wear to the gilt. The satin has minor marks, while the fitted pockets and elastic remain sound and the clasps work correctly.

What makes it so special is that sense of completeness. Nothing needs to be imagined or pieced together — open the case and the whole little ritual of dressing for an evening out is still waiting inside.
