There is something wonderfully elegant about the ritual of this little Stratton.
Closed, it resembles a tiny golden fan, its surface decorated with an off-white enamel starburst. Open it and the sections unfold to reveal a mirror and integrated lipstick holder — transforming an everyday touch-up into something altogether more glamorous.
Made in England and dating approximately to the 1950s–60s, the fan-shaped Lip View is one of Stratton’s more distinctive handbag accessories.
The enamel has survived exceptionally well, the gold tone remains bright and the folding mirror is beautifully preserved. The lipstick compartment is clean and the mechanism works correctly.
It is easy to picture it emerging from a little evening bag before dinner or dancing: the fan opened, lipstick applied in the tiny mirror, then folded away again.
A beautiful example of an era when practical things were allowed to be playful, ingenious and exquisitely pretty at the same time.
