A beautiful vintage Stratton Lip-View compact in an unusual elongated rectangular shape, its softly scalloped and notched sides lending it a particularly elegant silhouette. The rich deep burgundy enamel-style lid is centred with a finely detailed floral bouquet in cream, lilac, blue, russet and golden tones, set against the dark red ground with warm gold-tone edging. It is a lovely, richly coloured design with a distinctly glamorous mid-century character.
Inside is a wide rectangular mirror and Stratton’s ingenious raised Lip-View mechanism, with the interior marked “Made in England Stratton England” and carrying a registered design number. Measuring 6.5cm, this is a charming little vanity compact with beautifully detailed decoration and a pleasingly tactile form.
The compact is in very good vintage condition overall. Its floral decoration remains bright and attractive, with fine surface marks to the burgundy finish, light age-related wear to the gilt interior and a usable mirror. Please refer to the photographs, which form part of the condition description.
