Vintage Stratton Princess Baron Svetlana Beriosova Sleeping Beauty Ballerina Powder Compact 1950s

A rare and beautiful vintage Stratton Princess powder compact, featuring celebrated ballerina Svetlana Beriosova in The Sleeping Beauty.

The wonderfully delicate pictorial lid is taken from a ballet portrait by renowned society and Royal Court photographer Baron (Sterling Henry Nahum) and bears his distinctive signature at the lower left. The scene depicts Beriosova en pointe in a beautiful floral classical tutu against a softly coloured stage backdrop.

Measuring approximately 8.5cm, this is Stratton’s elegant Princess model, introduced during the 1950s and instantly recognisable by its distinctive scalloped outline. The gold-tone case opens to reveal a large bevelled mirror, marked STRATTON MADE IN ENGLAND, together with the powder compartment and fabric sifter. The reverse is decorated with Stratton’s attractive all-over star pattern.

The pictorial lid remains particularly lovely, retaining its soft pastel colouring and remarkably fine detail. There is age-related wear and discolouration to the gold-tone case, together with signs of previous use to the interior and sifter. The mirror remains beautifully clear for its age. Stratton’s signed Baron ballet compacts are particularly collectable, with the designs derived from photographs of leading dancers of the period rather than generic ballet illustrations.
