A beautiful vintage Stratton Princess powder compact featuring the sought-after “Persian” design, decorated with stylised dragons, figures and exotic motifs against an ornate cream and gold background. Made by Stratton of England, this elegant compact captures the glamour and fascination with Oriental-inspired design that became hugely popular in mid-century British vanity accessories.

The compact has the wonderfully feminine scalloped Princess shape with a fitted lipstick holder to the side and an attractive gilt reverse with engraved detailing. Inside, the compact retains its original mirror, signed Stratton inner lid, powder compartment and original mesh screen, all presented in exceptionally clean condition.

The Persian pattern is one of Stratton’s more distinctive and collectible novelty designs, with the intricate dragon and figure motifs giving it a far more unusual appearance than standard floral compacts. Pieces like this were designed to be both practical handbag accessories and decorative statement pieces, sitting elegantly alongside lipstick cases and evening bags during the 1950s and 1960s.
