Vintage Stratton Stratnoid Gold-Tone Powder Compact, Wellington Monument, Dublin, 5.2 cm

A little view of Dublin, captured beneath a clear dome and made small enough to carry in a handbag.

This vintage Stratton Stratnoid souvenir compact depicts the Wellington Monument, its scenic image given wonderful depth beneath the gently domed cover.

At approximately 5.2 cm diameter, it is one of the smaller Stratnoid compacts — a particularly charming size for something intended as a keepsake of a place visited and remembered.

The reverse is engine turned, while inside the compact carries the Stratnoid, Made in England mark together with its registered design details.

It has survived in excellent condition, with the hinge and clasp remaining secure.

There is something lovely about these old travel souvenirs. Long before hundreds of holiday photographs lived on a phone, someone could choose one beautiful little object to take home — and decades later, Dublin is still there beneath the glass.
