Made in England by Vogue Vanities, this unusually large 10 cm compact is covered with a richly detailed Persian-inspired scene of warriors, dragons and vivid colour, almost like a miniature illustrated story captured beneath the lid.
The bright gold-tone reverse provides a beautiful contrast, while inside is a clear mirror with the original powder puff and sifter still in place.
It remains wonderfully complete with its original Vogue Vanities presentation box and pouch.
The compact itself has survived in exceptional condition, with barely any visible wear and beautifully crisp decoration. Inside is one small trace of its previous owner: the initials MMB, engraved into the inner lid.
That little monogram somehow makes it more evocative rather than less. This wasn’t simply something that sat on a shop counter — it belonged to somebody.
