A beautiful and unusual vintage Stratton “Brush Off” folding clothes brush, decorated with the wonderfully ornate Indian Jewel pattern.
The front features an intricate cream and gold design inspired by Indian decorative arts, scattered with jewel-like details in rich red, blue and green. The elaborate central medallion makes this an especially attractive example of Stratton’s more decorative accessories.
The clever compact design opens to reveal rows of fine folding bristles. When closed, the brushes are safely contained within the gold-tone case, making it ideal for carrying in a handbag or travelling. The interior lid has a striking engine-turned sunburst design.
The reverse retains its original Stratton Brush Off instruction label, while the case is marked “Made in England – Stratton – British & Foreign Pats. Pending.”
Measures approximately 10 x 6 cm.
It remains in very good vintage condition overall, with light age-related wear and marks to the gold-tone finish. The decorative panel remains beautifully bright and detailed, and the brush mechanism opens and closes as intended.
