A rare early Stratton Clipped Round powder compact dating to 1938, finished in rich glossy red enamel with an applied silver-tone filigree decoration to the lid. This distinctive pre-war model takes its name from the flattened edges at the hinge and clasp and is documented as having been produced for only a short period.

Measuring approximately 7.5cm across, the compact has a bright silver-tone case. Inside is a mirror and loose powder well, complete with its mesh sifter and powder puff. The powder-well rim is marked STRATTON, with MADE IN ENGLAND and patent markings to the fittings.

It is in very good vintage condition for its age. The red enamel remains wonderfully bright and glossy, with just a small amount of enamel loss as shown. The applied decoration is intact, and the compact retains both its sifter and puff. Please refer to the photographs, which form part of the condition description.

The Clipped Round is one of Stratton’s scarce pre-war designs and is particularly interesting for collectors of the company’s earliest compacts.
