A wonderfully unusual vintage Stratton powder compact, decorated with one of the maker’s most distinctive and seldom-seen designs.
The cream enamelled lid centres on a pink Happy Birthday cake, surrounded by tiny celebratory illustrations including candles, flowers, a lucky horseshoe, birthday card, musical notes and a blue swallow carrying a letter. Birthday wishes appear around the design in several languages, including French, Dutch, Italian, Danish and Greek.
This is a particularly charming piece of Stratton design and one that is very rarely encountered, making it an appealing addition to a serious compact collection as well as a rather fabulous vintage birthday gift.
The gold-tone case measures approximately 7.5 cm in diameter. Inside is the original clear mirror, powder well and Stratton inner lid, together with the original powder sifter. The reverse has Stratton’s finely engine-turned concentric decoration.
It is in excellent vintage condition, particularly considering its age. The enamel decoration remains beautifully bright and detailed, with only minor storage wear to the compact overall. Please see the photographs, which form part of the condition description.
