Vintage 1930s La Vogue Powder Compact Yellow Guilloché Enamel Patent 764576 Made in England
A beautiful and unusual vintage La Vogue powder compact, made in England and dating to the Art Deco period.
Measuring approximately 4.5cm in diameter, this petite compact features a wonderful translucent golden yellow enamel lid over an intricate engine-turned guilloché design. The reverse is equally attractive, finished with a finely engine-turned concentric pattern.
Inside is La Vogue’s unusual patented loose powder dispensing system, engraved “VOGUE”, “TAP SHARPLY HERE” and “PATENT APP FOR 764576”. Rather than a conventional powder well, the central plate was designed to dispense powder when tapped – a fascinating piece of early compact design.
The compact is also clearly stamped “MADE IN ENGLAND” beside the hinge.
In lovely vintage condition for its age, particularly the striking enamelled lid, which retains a beautiful depth and lustre. There is age-related wear, tarnishing and discolouration to the metalwork and interior, together with ageing to the mirror, all shown in the photographs.
A particularly charming and unusual little English compact, with its combination of vibrant guilloché enamel, patented powder mechanism and wonderfully petite size.
