An unmarked 1950s powder compact with a printed fabric panel depicting a courting couple in period dress.
Approximately 7 cm diameter, the gold-tone case frames what appears to be a printed silk or similar textile panel, while the reverse is decorated with traditional engine turning.
Inside are the original mirror and metal-lined powder sifter.
No maker’s mark has been found, so the compact is offered without attribution.
There are small marks to the mirror and light surface wear to the case from previous use, but the textile panel remains intact and the hinge and clasp operate securely.
The use of fabric beneath the lid gives the pictorial scene a softer appearance than a printed or enamelled metal compact and is the most distinctive feature of this mid-century piece.
