A truly spectacular vintage powder compact with an exceptionally striking Art Deco design.
Measuring approximately 7.5cm (2.95”) across, this fabulous octagonal compact is covered with an intricate geometric mosaic-style decoration, with dozens of individually set faceted clear rhinestones creating an extraordinary jewelled surface. The cream and dark detailing surrounding the stones forms part of the original design, giving the lid wonderful depth and emphasising its bold geometric pattern.
It is an incredibly glamorous piece – dramatic, unusual and unmistakably Art Deco in appearance. The sheer number of rhinestones creates a fabulous sparkle as the compact catches the light, while the angular octagonal shape adds beautifully to its strong period styling.
Inside is the original powder compartment with mesh sifter together with the original mirror. The compact is marked “Made in England”.
The exterior presents beautifully and the elaborate rhinestone decoration remains the star of the show. There are signs of age and previous use to the metalwork, while the original mirror has substantial foxing and deterioration consistent with its age, as clearly shown in the photographs.
