Vintage Kigu Concerto Musical Powder Compact, Gold Tone Engine Turned Vanity Case

A superb vintage Kigu “Concerto” musical powder compact, made in England and dating to the mid-20th century. This is an exceptionally clean example, combining Kigu’s elegant compact design with the novelty of a built-in musical movement.

The compact has a classic oval form with a softly scalloped edge and a rich gold-tone finish. The lid is decorated with finely engine-turned detailing arranged around a central starburst motif, giving the surface a beautifully reflective finish as it catches the light.

A small control knob operates the concealed musical movement. Lifting the knob starts the music, allowing the compact to be enjoyed as a miniature music box as well as a traditional powder compact. The movement is working but currently runs fast, and for that reason the tune has not been confidently identified.

The interior is particularly impressive and exceptionally clean. It retains its original mirror, powder sifter and Kigu powder puff, with the powder compartment presenting beautifully. The base is marked Kigu, confirming the maker.

Condition:
Exceptional vintage condition and remarkably clean for its age. The gold-tone exterior presents beautifully, with only very minor signs of age and use. The interior is equally clean and retains its original fittings. The mirror presents well, and the original sifter and puff remain in place. The musical movement is working, although as noted above it currently plays fast. Please refer closely to the photographs, which form part of the condition description.
