A particularly fine vintage Stratton cigarette case with a deep cobalt-blue guilloché enamel panel decorated with pink cyclamen and green foliage.
The floral decoration is signed “ERIKA” at the lower right.
Dating from approximately the late 1950s to early 1960s, the case measures around 10 x 9 cm. The translucent cobalt enamel lies over an engine-turned ground, giving the blue surface considerable depth beneath the painted flowers.
The reverse is finished in finely textured gold-tone metal with a scalloped border.
Inside, the case retains its original spring-loaded metal cigarette retaining arm and clip. The hinge remains firm and the clasp closes securely.
There are light handling marks to the gold-tone metal, but the enamel presents extremely well and the interior mechanism is intact.
The signed decoration is an important feature of this example and, combined with the rich cobalt guilloché ground and unusually accomplished cyclamen painting, makes this a considerably more special Stratton than the company’s standard decorated cigarette cases.
