Vintage Stratton Powder Compact Rare Crown Motif Enamel 1950s

A striking 1950s Stratton powder compact, distinguished by its unusually elaborate crown decoration against a deep blue almost black enamel background. The stylised crown is richly picked out in silvery white, pale turquoise, yellow and deep purple, with scrolling ornamental outlines, jewelled-style dotwork and a softly textured purple centre. It is a wonderfully characterful mid-century design, especially appealing for its regal motif and decorative detail.

Measuring 7.5cm across, this round compact has Stratton’s closely grooved spiral finish to the reverse. Inside are a mirror and the original Stratton inner powder door, engraved with the Compact-in-Hand logo, while a mesh sifter remains in place over the powder well. The interior is marked Stratton, England.

There is visible tarnishing to the gilt-tone metalwork, together with an overall dulling to the enamel surface and age-related surface crazing within the crown decoration.
