A richly decorated vintage Volupté powder compact, made in the USA and signed “Gaige”, with an all-over enamel design of swallows, flowers and trailing foliage.
Approximately 7.5 x 7.5 cm, the decoration extends beyond the lid and continues around the sides of the case. Stylised swallows fly amongst ivy-like vines and flowers in cobalt blue, yellow and soft pink against a warm ivory ground.
The lower right of the lid carries the Gaige signature, while the gilt interior is marked Volupté U.S.A.
Inside, the original powder compartment and fittings remain present.
The enamel exterior is exceptionally well preserved, retaining strong colour and crisp detail. The principal condition issue is the original mirror, which is cracked, and this is clearly reflected in the price.
The wraparound decoration is particularly effective on this piece; rather than treating the lid as a single decorative panel, the design uses almost the entire exterior of the compact.
A beautifully decorated Volupté whose signed enamel work remains the star despite the damaged mirror.
