Vintage Volupte Enamel Powder Compact, Signed “Gaige”, All-Over Hand-Painted Swallow & Floral Design, 7.5cm

A richly decorated mid-century enamel compact by Volupte (U.S.A.), featuring an intricate all-over design of stylised swallows in flight, intertwined ivy vines, and vibrant enamel flowers in cobalt blue, butter yellow, and soft pink.

The decoration covers not only the lid but continues seamlessly around the sides — creating a fully wrapped design rather than a single-panel top. The warm ivory ground allows the birds and florals to stand forward clearly, while the hand-applied enamel retains crisp outlining and strong colour.

The swallows, with their distinctive forked tails and outstretched wings, bring movement to the piece and are a classic mid-century decorative motif. The lower right of the lid is signed “Gaige.”

Interior is gilt metal and marked “Volupte U.S.A.” The original mirror is present but cracked, as shown in the photographs. Powder compartment and internal fittings remain intact.

Measurements:
Approx. 7.5 x 7.5 cm.

Condition:
The enamel exterior shows no visible wear, with strong colour and detailing throughout, including the sides. The mirror is cracked. Otherwise structurally sound.

Due to the cracked mirror, this compact is best suited as a decorative collector’s display piece rather than for practical use.
