Vintage Mascot A.S.B. Combination Powder Compact Cigarette Case 1950s – Complete Unused Accessories
A beautiful and unusual vintage Mascot combination powder compact and cigarette case, dating to the 1950s and presented in exceptionally well-preserved condition.
Measuring approximately 7.5 x 5.5cm, this ingenious little vanity case combines a traditional powder compact with a separate curved compartment, all contained within an elegant gold-tone case. The exterior is decorated throughout with an intricate geometric engine-turned pattern, while the curved flap and polished clasp give the piece the appearance of a miniature structured handbag.
Opening the main compact reveals a large rectangular mirror and powder compartment. Remarkably, this example remains exceptionally complete, retaining its original unused powder puff and unused framed mesh sifter. Beneath the sifter is the beautifully patterned gold-tone powder well.
The separate curved compartment opens independently and is clearly signed Mascot in script to the interior.
The condition is particularly lovely. The gold-tone exterior remains beautifully bright, with the engine-turned decoration crisp and well defined. The original mirror is exceptionally clear, with just a couple of small localised spots caused by the original adhesive used to secure the mirror showing through from behind.
The survival of both the unused original puff and unused framed sifter is a particularly lovely feature, as these removable accessories are so often used, damaged or lost from vintage compacts.
A superb and exceptionally complete example of mid-century Mascot vanity design, combining clever construction, wonderful condition and beautifully preserved original accessories.
