Vintage Kigu Musical Powder Compact – Romantic Courting Scene Enamel Compact – Gold Tone Vanity Compact – Working Musical Compact – 1950s
A beautiful vintage Kigu musical powder compact dating to approximately the 1950s, featuring a wonderfully romantic enamel courting scene to the lid in soft pastel tones. The scalloped gold tone case gives this piece a lovely elegant feel in the hand, while the interior still retains its original charm and functionality.
This compact opens to reveal a fitted mirror, powder compartment and the original inner sections, with the musical movement still playing well when operated. The tune is currently unknown, but the mechanism is working nicely and adds such a special nostalgic touch to the piece. These musical Kigu compacts are always highly sought after, particularly examples with decorative enamel scenes and unusual sculpted cases like this one.
The enamel artwork depicts an 18th century inspired romantic garden scene with beautifully dressed figures in a style reminiscent of French Rococo paintings, giving the compact a very feminine and theatrical feel. It would display beautifully on a dressing table or vanity collection.
There is some wear to the base commensurate with age and use, along with one small chip to the enamel on the front, shown in the photographs. Overall however it remains a very attractive and display-worthy vintage example.
